In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, we at the Hancock County Health Department wants to let the citizens of Hancock County know we have a disaster plan in place and are prepared to use it if need be. Although, we can always use extra man power and are currently recruiting volunteers to help enhance our staffing levels in the event of an emergency, whether it be a natural or man-made disaster. We are looking for people of all walks of life, both professional and non-professional. We need nurses, doctors and other medical professionals to increase our staffing levels during an emergency. We need individuals to perform other important duties such as maintenance, runners, clerks and even mock clients to test our plans. If you are interested in being a part of our team and helping your community in the event of an emergency, please contact Victoria Roberts-Shaw at 217-357-2171.
